FAQ's

Who are we?

Urban Desertion is predominately the work of lillimouse a twenty something (just) from Surrey, who has a job in administration and accounts and yes exploring certainly breaks up the boringness of the weeks!

Some sites have been toured with others mostly from 28dayslater through who I have met some fantastic people and had some great times. Credit is due on this site to DocD who took a lot of the early pictures (and does a lot of driving).

Urban Exploration… What is it?

Simply put it is venturing past the NO ENTRY Sign, have you ever heard of a building near you that closed and nobody has been in for years and always wondered what it is like inside? Well I don’t wonder, I research it and check it out and sometimes what you find is amazing.

What interests you about abandoned buildings?

The architecture, the history, the abandonment, the whole package really! What I find most interesting is former asylums because as the Health Service progressed and many of these places were closed and just left to degenerate and looking into them is like a snapshot of the past.

What equipment do you use?

When I started I had a small camera a 2.1 mp camera that came with my pc, which was soon upgraded to a Kodak 6490 which has a fantastic zoom. I was lucky enough to get a Canon EOS 350D for Christmas which I have just sold to invest in a Sony Alpha 100 :O)

Other equipment which I always carry, a maglite a first aid-kit (just incase) a phone food and a drink, as the amount of time you can spend exploring esp. underground to amount into many hours.

Occasionally I take large power torches but these are used mostly underground for "lightpainting".

Pictures

Please do not use any of my pictures in other places on the web or for projects, articles etc without asking first. If you would like a full size copy of any of the pictures on this site please contact me either on the contact us section or directly on lillimouse@urbandesertion.com

Why do have a Disclaimer?

Many of the places which we visit are structurally unsound and dangerous; it is far safer to look at the pictures on this site and others like it than to go yourself. Permission is sought where possible; DocD is no stranger to asking and getting permission to unusual places.
