In the early 1930’s Guinness decided to build a UK factory within 25 miles of London to meet increased demands on production.

After a lot of searching to find the right site they settled on the 100 acre site in Park Royal, North London. The330095-284409-thumbnail.jpg design of the new brewery was given to Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the notable architect who also designed the Battersea Power Station and work started in 1933.

330095-284433-thumbnail.jpgThere are 3 main buildings than go from south to North materials move from the Malt Store to the Vat House and finally the Loading Bank. The buildings were built on a natural slope which helped the transfer of the liquid from one “house” to the next

The Brewery opened in 1936 and was finally closed in late 2005

Guinness’s marketing department is now housed in a brand new building which over looks the old buildings; all other processes have been transferred to Ireland . The original brewery buildings will be completely demolished to make way for a state of the art development. 330095-284416-thumbnail.jpg

I have never seen Industry on such a large scale before and I was totally awe struck all the way round, the walkways that went on for ever, the size of the storage bays, the size of the vats and the amount of liquid that they hold really has to be seen to be believed.
