Hanworth Park House
Probably the most unusual place to find a country house right on the edge of a industrial Estate just outside of Feltham.
I could not find out a lot about the history of the building and despite a lot of searching all I was able to find out was that it was built as a Country House in or around 1830. The south west expansion was added in 1850.![]()
In the first world war the park surrounding the house was bought and used as a bi-plane assembly and flying area, this part is now the rugby ground.
Planning permission was granted in 1998 to turn the now dilapidated house into a nursing home this was never carried out presumably because the costs involved were to high.
In 2002 further permission was granted to allow emergency works to be carried out to stem the invasion of dry rot and general repairs were carried out. During this time the local council also gave permission for the grand but desolate old house to be turned into a 75 - 100 bed hotel.
Hanworth park House is currently on the market for 6 million pounds!
Myself and Markr decided to have a look and see the current status of the
place, the house itself has its own private and and on approaching it we saw a
security guard looking though the front gate, deciding that we had nothing to loose Mark asked if we could have a look around. To our surprise he agreed we later found out that he lives on the site and was probably glad of the company!
The gates open onto the back of the building which now seems to be slightly demolished, with plastic sheeting covering what was the internal walls.
Walking around the odd shaped building we made our way to the front and we were totally astonished to find and fabulously ornate structure. The front of the building has a 2 storey veranda and stone steps descending into the garden.
Around the other side of the building the orate ness continues with more stone steps and ornate ironwork railings.
The best feature is the clock tower although this too has seen better days and now has a healthy population of pigeons residing there!
