Other Part now used as a Business Park. It was built of local stone with sandstone dressings and its interior lined with bricks made on the site

328184-350735-thumbnail.jpgHaving recently just heard of this place and going up to North Wales, DocD and myself decided to take a slight detour to see this amazing place for ourselves.

It is located just outside of Talgarth and is actually quite hard to find if you are using Sat Nav as it seems to drive you round every road in the town before you get to the right one!! Deciding that blatant was the way to go we drove straight up the Main 328184-350744-thumbnail.jpgDrive and parked outside of admin for a better look. DocD being the master of persuasion walked into the part which has become a Business Park and asked for a tour..... while I had a little wander.

Although we were not on site too long we managed to get to see quite a lot of the buildings and it is sad to see that demolition has started on the parts to the left of admin. At the time of our visit all that had gone was the connecting corridors. The buildings were used after closure as an Asylum Seeker centre, evidence of this could be found everywhere, signs in different languages, letters form various government departments and toys and clothes left behind.

328184-350737-thumbnail.jpgHospital items were still evident too with one room being used as a store which held the old Medical Superintendents desk, training skeletons and hoisting and lifting equipment.

Many of the corridors are wood lined although unfortunately neglect has made328184-350750-thumbnail.jpg them swell and break. The Main Hall is still there and strangely it has 2 projection rooms one at either end of the Hall, only one which we were able to take a look at; sadly it is now missing its projectors. Also in the central part is  a canteen and a funky common room which looks like it hasn't been redecorated since the 1970's!

328184-350748-thumbnail.jpgThere is also a mortuary on site which was recently used by a food company!?! There is a nurses home at the top of the site which was built on soft land and has since been condemned.

The future of this site is still undecided, with the possibility that about 40% of the site could be demolished possibly for houses.
