Print Works
Not in any way a historic or architectural building, the print works featured here is an abandonment brought about by today’s unpredictable economic climate. ![]()
Once considered to be one of the main commercial printers for the Surrey area, it had fallen upon hard times in 2004 and went into receivership in early 2005, literally overnight the workers were out of work & and the place shut its doors.
Taking a different route home one evening I decided to have a look as I peered up the alleyway to the side of the building I noticed that the large side door were open, thinking someone could be inside and I poked my head around the door a shouted the “hello” that you always hear in horror movies before someone gets chased for the remainder of the film! Luckily there were no homicidal maniacs there so I crept in for a better look. ![]()
The large machines which they used to print had been taken and probably sold to cover company debts but nearly everything else had been left, rows and rows of printing ink lined a wall there were old print jobs lying around everywhere even the clocking in sheets were left in their holders.
Venturing into the offices at the front of the building I found them completely trashed, in a private office room I found 9 or 10 computer monitors all lined up in a row which was slightly strange.
The place had been a bit of a playground to the local kids and they had seemed to have been amusing themselves by turfing out the cabinets and drawers and
generally making a mess!
