Tangley Place
Not much of the History of Tangley Place can be found, I believe it was once a manor house for the surrounding area. From 1947 to 1955 it was used as a post war convalescent home.
It was taken over by MAFF, the Ministry for Agriculture Fisheries and Food and used as a research station into
the habitats of starlings and the rising rabbit population until it was first offered for sale in 1997 as part of the governments surplus land project.
It was sold in 1999 to a developer who hoped to transform the original structure into expensive apartments. Unfortunately a fire swept thought the building and plans were put on hold.
Since then at least one other fire has destroyed more of the building and lack of security has seen the place as a prime target for vandals. Most of the tiles on the roof and exterior walls have been removed and smashed by the local kids who have been seen on the less than stable roof!
The interior is badly damaged the original wood panelling has been ripped out in many places and as of October 2005 there is not a lot worth saving any more.
Even the outbuildings which were once used by MAFF have been trashed beyond repair. The development company has now amended its plans and now hopes to tear down all structures on the site and replace them with modern housing.
